Hello you!
I'm Hayley Ryan, the cheeky artisan behind Ivy Trove.
Where do we start!?
Ivy Trove was born in October 2018 selling handmade home decor which shortly blossomed into hosting my first workshop on 30.3.2019, now it's well over 100+! We created the pot hanger and plant potting for my first class, then came the Wall hanging design, Private & Public Workshops, DIY Kits, Step by Step Tutorials, Online Workshops, Collaborations and Large scale commission pieces and the rest is history!
I'm a super extroverted person so naturally, I absolutely love meeting people, learning new things and listening to others stories all while having a good laugh. This turned out lucky for me because teaching something that I love and being able to share the beautiful mind therapy that comes with this timeless and unrestricted art form has been an absolute dream!
Ivy Trove is completely mobile! I've been so lucky to have that flexibility and drive my van to where ever I'm needed within the South East QLD region, Northern Rivers area and surrounding locations as well as live online globally of course!
Where it all started. Kind of.
In 2017 I was studying my Diploma of Horticulture and I had a little side hobby propagating, designing and selling terrariums. The glass globes only came with a string of twine to hang (borrinnggg) which led me to doing some research and I came across the familiar and historic art of Macramé (Mac-rah-may, Ma-crah-may.. same same). I propped myself on the floor with the jute twine roll that I had, found a YouTube video and before I knew it, I had truly found myself completely hooked - regardless of having to convert inches/feet to cm/metres from the vids (why do we have to use different metric systems? haha..) I now had a more stunning way to hang my glass eco systems in their new homes then pot hangers & wall hangings started to make their way out of my new found obsession.
Since forever I've been a crazy plant lady, on top of the rest! A collector (semi hoarder) of antiques/vintage/retro collectables, records, ceramics, quirky furniture, plants & books and all the trinkets. You've got to fill in the gaps of everything in life, you know? Especially if it's second hand, ohhh I live for a good op shop haul.
I've tried tons of creative outlets to express myself over the years - a few of my favs will always be making terrariums, pot plant design, plant care, cooking food, eating food, mosaic art, resin, drawing (mostly just trees and weird abstract things), procrastinating, sun catchers and of course Macrame. I've always been a big advocate for handmade gifts too!
When I realised how much Macrame helped me with my mental health along with being able to effortlessly focus for once (which I've always struggled with immensely due to ADHD). I delved deep into this fibre art and seriously couldn't stop. It felt like more than just a creative project but a real passion that also combined itself perfectly with my plant filled life.
Leading from my own personal journey, I proudly donate $1 for every Public Workshop ticket sold to Black Dog Institute that goes towards mental health research and development.
I love to play my part for this earth and have always been an unconsciously earth conscious human in both life and business. The things that count with Ivy Trove is that I am a plastic free business, I use high quality 100% recycled cotton cord, source local and recycled products where possible, propagate my own plants as well as locally source them from wonderful growers. I also donate the left over cord cuttings, cardboard spools and any other creative items to local day care centres & schools to reuse into their arts & crafts. It all adds up!
Come and ignite a new passion, step out of your comfort zone and enjoy a well deserved creative escape! It won't be boring, I promise.
Everyone is welcomed to my public classes! You don't need any experience to learn this timeless fibre art. My classes are all beginner friendly (unless specified), you just need to bring a smidge of patience, an open mind and the desire to step out of your comfort zone and meet some like minded people.
You'll truly enjoy your mini escape with the guidance of someone who doesn't take life too seriously but has plenty of tricks up their sleeve to keep you feeling comfy.
I can't believe you made it all the way down here haha! Thank you so much and if you have any questions or want to know more, please don't hesitate to get in touch anytime!
Cheers, Hayley X
